The Story of Stratton Lane Brewery

Barnaby & Bernadette Wheller - our brewery story.
Barnaby & Bernadette Wheller

Stratton Lane is a family owned micro-brewery run by Barnaby and Bernadette Wheller with our two children.

Having both run our own businesses in the past, Barnaby was looking for a new challenge (and seemingly hunting for a sneaky way to get more beer into his working day). So, for Valentine’s day he persuaded Bernadette that what she really wanted was a micro-brewery! Shortly after, a plan was hatched, equipment bought and a lease signed.

That was the easy bit! Two months of blood, sweat and tears followed, learning the ropes, mega amounts of research, creating our lovely Tap Room (how many coats of dark blue paint do we need?) and getting the brew refined. We opened our doors over the Easter weekend of 2019.

“Whoever drinks beer, he is quick to sleep; whoever sleeps long, does not sin; whoever does not sin, enters Heaven! Thus, let us drink beer!”

Martin Luther

Since then there have been highs, lows and learning curves that would thrill the biggest fan of wild roller coasters. There is a long way to go on our journey but thanks to massive support from amazing friends we are producing beers we are proud to show off. Why not drop in and try our great session beers in our courtyard which is an amazing suntrap in the summer months or take a seat under cover in our taproom a unique setting of the brewery – our ‘engine’ room where all the alchemy happens!

We’d love to welcome you to Stratton Lane Brewery very soon!
